Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals application is simple. However, you will want to experiment with your own way of applying it, keeping in mind that different application techniques bring different results. Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals can be worn alone or with our mineral powders on top.

Because we have used self-focusing minerals, you will find that Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals adapts to individual skin tones. The effect is like watching a Polaroid develop before your eyes. Make sure you have let Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals dry before you judge the color. Always test the shade on face. It will look different on different parts of the body as it reacts to skin color, moisture levels and type of skin. One color will suit a number of different complexion colors.

It is important not to think of this as a traditional liquid makeup. Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals is an advanced liposome technology. The large liposomes that you see suspended in the gel are broken down as they are pumped through a screen in the bottle. The microscopic liposomes surrounding them are broken down through manipulation on the skin and body heat. That is the way they release their active ingredients. You may need to adjust the amount of moisturizer you use under Liquid Minerals because of its own inherent moisturizing properties.

With every new container of liquid minerals, your first few pumps will be primarily gel as the minerals are released into it. This will only happen once, then the mousse will be consistently even. Rub the gel into your hands - it's good for them!

There would be no reason to bring out a liquid base unless it offered something really special. Our loose and pressed mineral bases do everything that a traditional base does and more. They are a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen all in one, and they have stood the test of time. Still leaders in their field, their popularity and acceptance grows at about 15% a month.

However, many of you asked us for a liquid base. We looked on it as an opportunity to give you something unique and to develop a formula with a delivery system that could provide meaningful active ingredients for the skin. It's taken two years, but we believe we have a product that brings makeup as skin care to the next level!

Thanks to liposome technology, minerals and antioxidants now work hand in hand to produce not only a makeup that gives a moist, flawless look that diminishes the appearance of pores and fine lines, but also releases fresh antioxidants with every application. (This is the first time that this kind of technology has been used in makeup.) Suitable for all skin types, wear Liquid Minerals alone or with the mineral powders on top. Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals grabs the powders so effectively that you will get incredible coverage that still looks sheer and feels weightless.

Time-Released Antioxidants and Phytosomes:
Liposomes allow a controlled and sustained release into the epidermis and increase delivery by up to 40%. The beads, or spheres, visible in the airless pump are actually liposomes entrapping liposomes.

At the center of the visible spheres lie minerals (mica, titanium dioxide, boron nitride and iron oxides), L-sodium hyaluronate acid (hyaluronic acid) and Olive Squalene - all encapsulated in seaweed lipids. Floating around these larger spheres, like planets around the sun, are microscopic liposomes that individually encapsulate Coenzyme Q10, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Vitamin K, Willow Bark Extract, Chamomile, Calendula and Seaweeds (Algin, Agar and Carrageenan).

The spheres are then suspended in a gel of aloe vera, lavender flower water and vegetable glyverin.

As the makeup is applied and worked into the skin, the body temperature breaks down the liposomes so that they can release their actives in a prolonged time-release action for the ultimate in skin health and protection. This formula has a natural pH of 6 and is so perfectly balanced that it needs no pH adjusters. Below is an illustration of the science behind liquid minerals.

Airless Pump:
This expensive but effective packaging ensures fresh, active ingredients without the necessity of synthetic preservatives.

How To Use:
When the pump is operated it pushes the gel and liposomes through a screen which mixes them into a mousse. (The first pump of a new bottle may be clear. This is the gel clearing the tube. Just rub it into your hands. It's good for them!)

Suggested methods of application are:
  1. For light coverage, spritz the flocked sponge with D2O, pump a small amount of Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals on to the hand or directly on to the sponge. Work the base into the skin to aid the dispersion of the liposomes.
  2. For heavier coverage, apply with a dry flocked sponge. I think our flocked sponge does a better job of application than the traditional wedges.
  3. For dry skin, apply skin care as usual and then Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals.
  4. For oily skin, try with or without a moisturizer.
Sun Protection:
We could have put chemical UV absorbers in Liquid Minerals to give it an SPF rating, but we wanted to keep this formula as sensitizer-free as possible; however, Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals can still enhance sun protection in a very important way. Studies are continuing to show that SPF screening isn't enough to protect the skin from the mutagenic effects of accumulated radiation. (Even the most careful applications of high factored sunscreens do not screen out 100% of UV rays.) Sunscreens can lend a sense of false security and encourage the wearer to stay in the sun longer and more often, thus adding to radiation accumulation. Remember, just because the skin doesn't burn, doesn't mean that it is not being exposed to carcinogenic amounts of UV light.

This is where the fresh antioxidants in Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals can play a big part in helping to maintain the health of the skin. Loading the skin with antioxidants before, during and after sun exposure can neutralize the mutagenic free radicals (mostly single molecular oxygen.) Two of the many antioxidants our unique system delivers into the skina are:

• Coenzyme Q10: A naturally occurring metabolic enzyme found in every living cell of the body. Used daily, CoQ10 helps prevent and reverse the aging process. It stimulates the vital energy necessary for skin cells to heal, protect and rejuvenate themselves. Tests show that: CoQ10 decreases DNA damage up to 70%, significantly maintains the dermal matrix, reduces wrinkles depth by 27%, and increases epidermal turnover and cellular renewal.

• Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate: A very specific, highly potent and absorbable form of Vitamin C. According to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatoloty, MAP is deeply absorbed and stays in the skin's cellular layers for up to 48 hours if formulated in a proper delivery system. This sustained continuous-action complex bathes both the exterior wall and interior of the cell with active Vitamin C and therefore, has a protective effect against skin damage by UVB radiation. A stable derivative of ascorbic acid, it has been shown to suppress melanin formation. Also a good anti-inflammatory that can be used post-exfoliation, as it frequently has a less acidic pH than water-based Vitamin C.
