Makeup FAQ
How can I keep my eyeliner in place during the hot summer months?
Try using Bioelements T-Zone Monitor on your lids before applying makeup to absorb excess oils. Use gels under the eyes instead of any crèmes – crèmes contain oils that can break-down makeup throughout the day. If you’re using an eye pencil, go over it with a light dusting of powdered shadow to help it stay in place. For a longer lasting lid color, try applying you powdered shadow wet instead of dry. The wet powder will “cling” to the lid.
I have horrible dark circles under my eyes. Nothing seems to help. What should I do?
The best way to get rid of undereye circles is to camouflage them with a pigment-intense concealer in a color that neutralizes their dark blue tone. A slightly orange, peach shade works best. The Concealer should also be a creamy consistency so it clings to the skin. To apply, dab on gently, pat-blend into the skin (don't rub), blot with a tissue and set with a light textured, loose powder in a neutral or colorless shade. (try Bioelements Dark Circle Concealer and set it with Bioelements Colorless Powder.)
How do I keep my makeup base from fading?
Makeup bases usually fade when you do not do anything to set it into the skin. The best defense against fading is to use your Bioelements Loose Powder over your makeup base. Touch-Ups can be made throughout the day by using your Bioelements Touch-Up Powder. Remember that your makeup base choice should be one that is oil-free. Bioelements Makeup Base is oil-free, this will further prevent fading and separating.
How can I sharpen my lip and eye liner pencils without breaking them?
Both eye and lip pencils are relatively soft and can break during sharpening. To avoid this problem, make sure the pencils are cool before inserting them into the pencil sharpener. How? By placing them in the refrigerator for a half-hour or longer. This will chill the pencil so it doesn't break.
How can I keep my lip color from bleeding?
Lip color that moves its way above upper and lower lip lines can be an annoying problem. To keep your lip color in place be sure to line your lips with Bioelements Natural or Dark Natural Lip Pencil and softly fill in before applying color. You can also apply a bit of Bioelements Loose Powder on your lips before applying color for added staying power.
Is eyeshadow still in style?
Eyeshadow is still as popular as ever. It's just a lot more subtle than it used to be. The modern way to wear eyeshadow is to dust a sheer, see-through wash of color over your lids. Heavily applied color is definitely out! Unsure of which color to wear? You can't go wrong with a neutral taupe shade. Just make sure you can try the color on before you buy it. Better yet, seek the advice of professional makeup artist? Visit a salon in your area that carries Bioelements Makeup Made Easy and ask their makeup specialist to help you select the best colors for your face.
My mascara always clumps, what can I do to stop this?
The reason mascara clumps is due more to the misuse of the product than the application. Make sure you do not pump your Bioelements Mascara, instead turn the base to release color onto the wand. Remove the wand very slowly pressing slightly against the sides of the base. If clumping still persists, punch the wand through a tissue. This is a sure way to remove any additional clumping and give you the results you want.
Skin Care FAQ
Do I really need to use a toner?
Using a toner everyday is an important step in having healthy skin – don’t skip it! The purpose of toner is to restore the skin to its natural pH level [between 4.5 and 5.5], and to remove any traces of cleanser left behind. The skin will accept moisturizer more readily and easily if it’s prepared with a toner first. All skin types can benefit from the use of a good alcohol-free toner. [Try Bioelements Equalizer – an alcohol-free toner with herbal extracts to hydrate just-cleansed skin. To give your toner an extra boost, add Bioelements Rev-Up –to energize dull, sluggish skin – or add Calm Down – to soothe sensitized skin – to your Equalizer.]
What are the benefits of having regular facials?
The skin’s natural tendency is to heal itself in a fastidious manner, however, sometimes we must seek professional help in order to achieve maximum results. Things like hormones, stress and seasonal changes can bring on trouble that’s best addressed by a licensed professional. There are many benefits to regular facials: Clearer skin is a natural result of professional exfoliating on a regular basis, and smoother, more moist and supple skin is a result of the professional massage that may be included in your facial. Skin learns to adjust more quickly to life’s stressors, and responds in a healthy manner. As you keep regular appointments with your esthetician, she will learn the cyclical changes that occur with your skin and will adjust and offer the correct products for you to use.
How often should I have a facial?
The skin cells take about 28 days to reach the surface [in optimum circumstances], so once a month it is beneficial to deep cleanse and remove impurities from the pores. Depending on your skin, it may be better to have an occasional longer, more intensive treatment according to your esthetician’s professional opinion. Your skin care expert can recommend the proper home care regimen as well as help you maintain your skin’s well-being.
How can I get rid of the brown spots on my hands?
Called solar lentigines, those unsightly brown spots that appear on the hands, arms, chest and face are the cumulative result of sun exposure. And even if you never intentially tanned your skin, intermittant day-in day-out exposure is enough to cause the problem. The solution is Bioelements Pigment Discourager with 2% hydroquinone. Ask your esthetician for specific instructions on how to use Pigment Discourager, and follow her directions if you want to see results.
Do I really need to use a mask? If so, why?
Yes. Regular use of corrective facial masks keeps your skin toned, just like regular exercise keeps your body in shape. For best results, have your Bioelements esthetician create a customized facial mask personalized for your exact skin.
I love to lie in the sun this time of year. How can I protect my skin from damaging UVA and UVB rays?
The sun is the number one reason why the skin ages. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and destroy the support structure of the skin, causing the surface to appear wrinkled. UVB rays affect the surface of the skin, and will cause the skin to burn. Multiple burns on the skin before the age of 18 will cause the skin to age dramatically in the 30’s,and will also increase the probability of developing skin cancer. To protect your skin from these conditions, always where a total sun block on your skin. We recommend Bioelements Sun Diffusing Protector, which will block both types of damaging rays. Try to stay out of the sun between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm when the sun is at its hottest and always wear a hat with a wide brim when in the sun.
Does stress really affect my skin?
Many experts say yes. That's why it's important to visit your skin care center regularly for destressing face and body treatments. It's an investment in your beauty and health.
Why are synthetic fragrances and colorants undesirable in skin care products?
Artificial colorants and synthetic fragrance can irritate the skin. This type of irritation is referred to as "irritant contact dermatitis," a simple irritation that develops in response to a substance applied to the skin. Irritant contact dermatitis can cause redness, itching, rash or worse. It's best to avoid products that list "fragrance" on the ingredient listing or contain colorants, especially if you have sensitive skin. If you are not sure about the ingredients in a product, ask before you buy.
How can I prevent my face from looking shiny during the day?
The best way to ensure that the face does not become shiny during the day is to apply an oil-absorbing product to the skin before applying makeup base. Use Bioelements T-Zone Monitor immediately after cleansing, in all areas that tend to become shiny. It contains an ingredient called Nylon 12, which will absorb oils in the skin as they come to the surface. For extra protection against shine, ask your skin care professional to add Bioelements Oil Blotting Powder to any Bioelements Powder and apply to the skin after you apply your makeup base. This will ensure an oil free look all day.
What can be done for those annoying occasional breakouts on the face?
Breakouts on the face can be caused by a number of different factors. The most common cause in women especially is hormonal imbalance, which will cause the skin to react by breaking out along the jaw line. This usually happens around the time of a woman’s menstrual cycle or in times of stress. The best thing to do is to apply a product which contains 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide to the areas that are affected. Bioelements Breakout Control is just the right product for the job. Apply it directly over the breakout, and you will see that the area will heal and dry within two to three days of use.
Why would I want custom blended skin care products?
Because every skin is different, down to its very cells. And what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. That's why its best to consult with a licensed esthetician in a salon, spa or medical office on what products to use. She can assess your skin, determine its oil production level and conditions, then customize products to meet your exact needs. Why settle for off-the-shelf products when you can have formulas created especially for your skin? Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
Why are my cheeks always red and sensitive?
You may be suffering from a condition known as Rosacea. This condition is characterized by a pattern of redness that is permanently on the cheeks and sometimes the nose. The condition starts to appear in the early thirties and is more common in people who have had teenage acne. Rosacea is triggered to flare up by a number of different external factors such as alcohol, smoking, stress, weather conditions and diet. When the skin is experiencing a flare up, it can become very red, itchy and sometimes little pimples can appear. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you should see a dermatologist for diagnosis. Use gentle products on your skin for example Bioelements Moisture Positive Cleanser custom blended with Soothing Concentrate, and Capillary Antidote. Complete sun block is essential so use the Bioelements Sun Diffusing Protector, which has SPF 15 for total protection. To help with any dryness use Bioelements Crucial Moisture or Absolute Moisture and always have your skincare professional custom blend your products with Soothing Concentrate and Capillary Antidote. Lastly, use Bioelements Recovery Serum for dryness and dehydration.
What can be done for fine lines and wrinkles on my face?
Fine lines and wrinkles on the face are caused when the support structures of the skin begin to break down. This usually begins to happen in the early thirties and is caused primarily by damage from ultra violet rays. To help reduce the signs of aging use Bioelements Eye Area around the eyes. It contains 4% Alpha Hydroxy acids, which will exfoliate the skin, lessening the appearance of the lines. Recently the use of topical vitamins on the skin has produced dramatic results in reversing the signs of aging. Use Bioelements VitaMineral Power Pen, which contains vitamins A, C, D and E. These vitamins, when applied immediately after cleansing, will help reduce and may reverse the signs of aging. |
