Skin1 product guide

Which Dermalogica powder exfoliant should you choose?

All three Dermalogica powders are mixed with water, massaged briefly and rinsed away after cleansing. Milkfoliant has a creamy oat-and-coconut blend, Microfoliant combines rice-derived ingredients with papain and salicylic acid, and Superfoliant adds charcoal, niacinamide and fruit acids.

Pick by ingredient direction

Start with Milkfoliant if the oat-and-coconut, milky-powder format appeals; Microfoliant if you specifically want its rice/papain/salicylic combination; Superfoliant if its charcoal/niacinamide/acid formula is the desired change. All require rinsing, and each should be introduced according to its own directions and your tolerance.

A quick way to narrow the choice

Decide which ingredient direction you actually want before comparing names. Milkfoliant's oat and coconut ingredients make it the distinct milky option; Microfoliant is the only one of these current US panels that explicitly lists salicylic acid; Superfoliant is the only one with listed charcoal powder and niacinamide. All three also include papain, so that alone will not settle the choice.

Does 'daily' mean you must use it daily?

No. The manufacturer permits regular use, but both its Microfoliant and Superfoliant directions advise alternate days for more sensitive skin or while acclimating. Follow the exact chosen product's instructions; reduce frequency or stop if your skin becomes uncomfortable. Apply daytime sun protection as Dermalogica instructs for Microfoliant.

Narrow the choice to two products

Use the pair selector to compare your two likely choices, with all three full ingredient lists on this page. The Microfoliant product guide explains its routine in more detail, and the powder-alternatives guide compares options from other brands.
